Understanding Progress

At Furze Down, we recognise that progress looks different for every pupil.

Assessment helps us understand what pupils know, what they can do and what they need to learn next. It allows us to celebrate achievements, identify next steps and ensure learning remains ambitious and personalised.

We assess progress across both parts of our curriculum:

 

EHCP Developmental Framework

Cognition Framework

Progress in academic and vocational learning.

 

How Do We Assess Progress?

Assessment is an ongoing part of teaching and learning.

Teachers, therapists and support staff gather evidence through observations, discussion, practical activities, classwork and EHCP reviews to build a picture of each pupil's development and progress.

 

EHCP Outcomes and Short-Term Goals

Every pupil's learning journey is shaped by their EHCP.

Short-term goals are reviewed regularly and help ensure learning remains personalised, meaningful and focused on each pupil's next steps.

 

Working Together with Families

Progress is shared through Annual Reviews, EHCP reporting, parent consultations and regular communication between home and school.
