EHCP Developmental Framework

The EHCP Developmental Framework develops the skills, behaviours and attributes pupils need to flourish in life, learning, work and leisure.

Working alongside the Cognition Framework, it provides a clear structure for supporting personal development and preparing pupils for adulthood.

The framework is organised into five strands.

Strand 1: Communication and Interaction

Developing communication, language and social interaction skills that support learning, relationships and independence.

Strand 2: Social Emotional Health and Wellbeing

Developing self-awareness, emotional regulation, resilience, positive relationships and personal responsibility.

Strand 3: Physical and Sensory Development

Developing physical skills, coordination, body awareness and sensory regulation to support learning, wellbeing and independence.

Strand 4: Preparation for Adulthood

Developing the knowledge, skills and experiences needed for employment, independent living, community participation and healthy lifestyles.

Strand 5: Cognition and Learning

Developing engagement, thinking skills, reflection and independent learning behaviours that support successful learning.

Supporting Progress

The framework helps teachers, therapists and support staff identify strengths, set meaningful goals and plan learning that is ambitious, personalised and relevant.

Together with the Cognition Framework, it ensures pupils are supported to make meaningful progress towards adulthood and lifelong wellbeing.

At Furze Down, everyone has something to offer.
We value the different strengths, experiences and perspectives each person brings.
They help us understand one another, support one another and grow together.
Everyone has a voice. Everyone has value. Everyone makes a difference.
